THE SILK ROAD FORUM - MADRID.

The Silk Road foresees the creation of an intercontinental network of land and sea corridors to connect three continents and Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed the joint building of The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (to be known as the Belt and Road).

The first annual conference of the Silk Road Forum was held in Istanbul., Turkey, in 2014 with over 200 attendees, and the 2015 Madrid Forum, attended by some 300 guests from more than 30 countries, debated topics such as infrastructure connectivity, international cooperation in production capacity, Silk Road construction, and a sustainable development agenda.

Li Wei, director of the Development Research Centre, in his opening speech stressed the importance of this tool to escape financial crisis and help establish stability and recovery in the global community.

The "Silk Road Think Tank Network" (SiLKS) was also launched during the Forum.

In his address, Lyu Fan, China's ambassador to Spain said that Spain, which marked the western end of the old Silk Road, was one of the creators of the Maritime Silk Road.

The Chinese Embassy in Spain, in conjunction with Development Research Centre of the State Council of Chine (DRC), the Centre for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), and other sponsors, held The Silk Road Forum in Madrid the 28th and 29th October, with Jose. M. Chiquillo, Senator for Valencia in the Spanish Government, as one of the guest speakers (photo on the left).

THE SILK ROAD VALENCIA

A meeting of representatives of countries along The Silk Road took place in Valencia with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs J. Manuel Garcia-Margallo presiding (third from the left in the photo above).

Other dignitaries accompanying the Minister were (left to right above) Jose M. Chiquillo, Valencian Senator in the Spanish Government, Ximo Puig, President of the Valencian Government, Manuel M. Morena, Director General of Casa Asia, Joan Calabuig, Deputy-Mayor of Valencia city Hall, and Alejandro Noguera, of UNESCO, Valencia.

The Silk Roads countries who sent Ambassadors or representatives were; India, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Croatia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Italy, Korea, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Singapore, as well as Federico Palomera, Spanish Co-operation with UNESCO.


SAVE THE DATE - JUNE 2016 - WHEN THE SILK ROAD ENDS IN VALENCIA

Francesc Colomer, Valencian Government Autonomic Secretary of Tourism (centre above), presided the presentation in the Centro of Professional Tourism (CdT), of the Silk Road events to take place in Valencia in June 2016, when representatives from cities along the Silk Road from China, will gather in the Silk Exchange (Lonja de la Seda) for a series of talks on the past, present, and future of the silk industry and related technology.

Organised by the Valencia Mediterranean UNESCO and the Valencian Government, the programme has a wide range of events to promote tourism in Valencia, with special gastronomy fairs, exhibitions on silk weaving, and a broad band of cultural events.

Mr. Colomer was accompanied by Jose M. Chiquillo, Senator of the Spanish Government, and member of the Silk Road Co-ordination Committee (above right), and Alejandro Noguera of the Mediterranean UNESCO.

THE SILK ROAD FROM CHINA TO VALENCIA

VALENCIA ON THE SILK ROAD 19-21 JUNE

 

UNESCO in Valencia organized a three day event relating to Valencia's participation in THE SILK ROAD, with lectures and round table discussions on the 19th June in the Pious V Fine Arts Museum (photograph on the left).

The Silk Road events for the 20th and 21st June will take place in the Silk Exchange (Lonja de la Seda) on the left.

On the 20th June, visits to the Royal Silk College have been programmed, with explanations on the manufacture of silk material, from the silk worm cocoon to the finished product of fine silk with patterns woven in silver and gold threads (photo left).


VALENCIA ON THE SILK ROAD IN CHINA

 

UNESCO Valencia participated in the First Meeting of the UNESCO Silk Road Online Platform International Network, that took place in May in Xi'an, China, (photo above).

 

Spanish Government Senator Jose M. Chiquillo who has been appointed by the Spanish Government to represent Spain in all events relating to The Silk Road, headed a delegation from the UNESCO office in Valencia to China.

Mr. Chiquillo, whose official title is "Co-ordinator of The Silk Road Focal Point for Spain" is seen here on the left with Ali Moussa, Chief of the History and Memory for Dialogue Section, Division for Heritage, of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

Here, Senator Chiquillo is accompanied by Annick Thebia, International Consulter for Civilization Dialogues, and Doudou Diene, Project Manager of the "Integral Study of The Silk Road".
